Owners meet the fascia when paint peels, a gutter pulls away, or birds and water show up in the soffit. The roof covering can still look fine. The edge is still failing. Roof fascia repair replaces or rebuilds the board the gutter and the drip edge depend on. Soffit repair restores the panel and, more importantly, the intake path the attic needs. A new ridge vent on a roof with a packed, rotten soffit does not ventilate anything.

What fails and what we replace
Wood fascia swells, loses paint, and lets the gutter lag pull out. The drip edge then tips water back toward the deck. Soffit panels fall, intake slots clog with insulation, and bath fans that were dumped into the soffit stain the panel. Aluminum wraps over rotten wood hide the problem until the gutter sags. We remove the cover-up when the wood underneath is the actual scope.
On a reroof, this edge should be decided before new shingles lock it in. Roof replacement and installation both depend on a perimeter that can hold metal. Doing the fascia after the new shingles are on means disturbing a finished eave. Fold it into the project when the wood is already soft.
How this relates to leaks
Kickout flashing that misses the gutter dumps water into the wall. That can look like a roof leak and be an edge detail. Leak repair tracing will send the work here when the entry is the eave or the wall, not the field. Overflow from a clogged gutter is sometimes maintenance, handled with roof maintenance, and sometimes a slope or a spike problem that needs new gutter line. Roof and gutter inspection is the look that separates those before anyone buys a full replacement.

Can you replace fascia without replacing the roof?
Often, yes, if the drip edge and the first courses can be detailed without destroying a sound field. If the roof is being replaced anyway, do the edge with it.
Do you install gutters?
When they are part of the roof-edge scope. Roof gutter installation is priced with the fascia it hangs on, not as an unrelated add-on with no slope plan.
Why does soffit repair matter to the attic?
Intake air usually enters at the soffit. Blocked or missing soffit turns a ridge vent into a decoration and can show up as moisture or ice problems.
Is peeling paint only cosmetic?
Not when the board is soft or the gutter is pulling away. Paint failure is the early sign. Probe the wood before you only repaint.
Will this fix a leak in the wall?
If the water is coming from the eave or a missing kickout, yes. If it is a valley or a chimney, the field repair is the right page.
